If you watched the debates last night you may of heard Barack Obama come out strongly against the support of Farrahkan. But even more important than that, he made it clear how important it was to him that he help restore the relationship between Blacks and Jews. This was a big point for me, because, frankly, I don’t see a white president giving two shits about the problem, but I think it would do wonders if a Black president could erase the hate! First off, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and David Dinkins (who was Mayor of New York City during the infamous riots in Crown Heights) never did much to heal the wounds on both sides, and I’m really encouraged that Obama seems to be taking seriously the desire to restore that special partnership the two groups once had. It’s also good that he’s a Democrat that’s not about to take the Jimmy Carter approach with regard to America’s suppport of Israel, which will be good for Obama when he’s trying to steal some support of McCain.
