Man oh man! Some of you may be too young to remember while others, sorry, may be too old, but there are some of us who remember going to school the Monday morning after Knight Rider first aired on NBC. It was part of their Fall 1982 line-up, and while I wasn’t heralding it for it’s cutting edge “electro” soundtrack at the time, I loved the car and the stunts. That’s what I loved back then, it’s that simple. I can’t exactly tell if last night’s 2-hr movie sucked or not, I’m trying to be fair and assume that the first one sucked too, only I was too young to know it, and maybe I’m just too old to appreciate it now.

The update to the Mustang, is probably a good one, because even then we knew the Pontiac, Firebird was one of the cheapest looking Trans Am’s ever made. KITT was awesome for kids, but the truth is, the car was puny and plastic looking, and totally marked the transition into the 80s. I did have some fun with this one last night, I’ll admit, but who knows if I’ll stick with it or not? If you missed it, you can catch full episodes on NBC.COM. If you’re into film-locations like I am, you may have recognized the wonderful mountains of Santa Clarita, California in the background. As a Cal Artian, I know the area like the back of my hand, in fact, it’s because of all these TV shows that I grew up on, that I felt totally at home when I finally made it out west. David Hasselhoff, who makes an appearance to pass the baton, must’ve been familiar with those Santa Susana’s, San Gabriel’s, and Tehachapi Mountains’ as well, not only because the show, but because he graduated from the Cal Arts acting department. In the shot below, KITT comes racing down the old Ridge Route through Templin Highway (which is one of my favorite spots to stargaze due to the shelter of the mountains), and I yelled out right away, “THAT’S TEMPLN HIGHWAY!” I’m a geek, I know.
